Program Overview

The master’s specialization “Modern History of the Arab World” is an academic program within the field of the humanities. It is officially accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The program covers the period from the First World War to the present day.

   The program aims to train students and equip them with the knowledge and scientific skills that enable them to master the modern history of the Arab world. This is achieved through the study of the various political, strategic, security, economic, social, and cultural developments that the Arab region has experienced during the contemporary period.

Program Objectives (Integrated with Standards):

1. Cognitive and Theoretical Formation:

    To ensure comprehensive mastery of the key concepts related to the modern history of the Arab world, including a strong command of the geography of the Arab region. Students are expected to gain an overall understanding of the major political, economic, social, and cultural developments, as well as the principal problems and ongoing challenges facing the Arab world. This component aims to provide students with an advanced level of knowledge in the specialization.

2. Acquisition of Methodological Skills:

    To develop students’ proficiency in the methodological steps of historical research and their ability to utilize various historical and archival documents through different historical research methods. This objective is achieved through the completion of several research assignments and a final-year dissertation.

3. Professional Qualification:

    The cognitive, scientific, and methodological competencies acquired during the program enable graduates to enter the labour market and hold positions in various fields, including:

·        Teaching in different educational institutions.

·        Archives and Documentation Centers, and Libraries.

·        Media, communication, and journalism.

·        Ministry of Culture.

·        Museums.

·        The tourism sector.

  • Prominent Figures of reformist and political thought in the Arab world.
  • Political Movements and Parties in the Arab World (1919–1945).
  • Unification Projects in Modern Arab History.

  • The Arab–Zionist Conflict Since 1948.
  •  Unification ideas in the Maghreb.
  • The Arab East Since 1945.
  • The Oil Question in the Arab World.

Methodology Educational Units:

  • Methodology of Master’s Dissertation Preparation.
  • Research Seminars.

Exploratory Educational Units:

  • Entrepreneurship.
  • Algeria and the Palestinian Cause.

Semester 4

Compulsory:

  • Personal Work: Preparation and Defense of the dessertation.
