Browse Programs Admission InformationThis specialty is primarily aimed at students who wish to join a company immediately after completing their master's degree. It aims to train individuals capable of adapting quickly to the business world and capable of managing a project. The training includes knowledge of business life, management, and marketing.
For the scientific part, it provides high-level training in the fields of food safety (microbial contamination), biological engineering (use of microorganisms for the production of molecules of industrial interest, mastery of biotechnology tools).
Knowledge of microbial biodiversity, to characterize new molecules with interesting properties for environments not only food but also pharmaceutical, agronomic and/or industrial, offers a possibility of orientation towards many other sectors of activity depending on the options chosen by the students.
Understand the biological foundations and master the technological aspects of the various sectors of plant and microbial biotechnology. Acquire the language keys to follow the evolution of biotechnologies and their transfer to the economic world.
The specialty will support 20 to 30 students holding bachelor's degrees (in microbiology, biochemistry, and other similar specialties) or an equivalent university degree. Students from the Biological Engineering, Biological and Biochemical Analysis, Food Science, Molecular Biology, and Engineering programs are also invited to pursue this specialty. Admission to the first or second year will require validation of prior learning.
Many biologists find employment in Algerian and even foreign universities, as well as in industry, where they often pursue research activities. Others choose to teach in public or private schools, or apply their skills in the media or public administration, in the sectors of environmental protection, public health, agriculture, etc. Still others work in private environmental consulting firms, in land development, or in environmental NGOs. This type of master's degree is especially suited to graduates who are considering a career as a research or development engineer in the industrial sectors of biotechnology, agri-food and health, or who are considering a career in quality control, business certification, technological and competitive intelligence, marketing (high-tech products, food industry), research management (multi-site, multi-cultural project management), entry into control structures (state and private quality control laboratories, etc.) and ministries (environment, health, agriculture, etc.).
The training supervision team is composed of teachers who are specialists in the subject to ensure the smooth running of the training; the availability of material resources such as the various educational or research laboratories with adequate equipment. Two to three continuous assessments of 1.5 hours each and a final exam of 2 hours will take place at the end of the semester for each subject of the unit. In the case of the mini project and the internship, the grade is taken into consideration in the calculation of the average.
Fundamental and general knowledge of biology acquired in the Bachelor's degree and an adapted curriculum in the M1. Applicants must have the following specializations:
- Bachelor's degree in microbiology
- Bachelor's degree in biochemistry
and/or they must have a basic understanding of microbiology (general, food, medical, and/or molecular), biochemistry, and biotechnology. Notions of cellular physiology, botany, and zoology are also required.
