Program Overview

This program awards an Academic Master's degree in Modern and Contemporary Criticism, within the Critical Studies branch of the Arabic Language and Literature Department, under the Domain of Arabic Language and Literature, at Blida 2 University. Spanning four semesters (two years) and offered by the Faculty of Letters and Languages, the program aims to deepen the student's critical knowledge, equip him/her with modern methodologies for textual analysis and criticism, provide an overview of the most important contemporary critical theories, and enable him/her to produce rigorous scientific research qualifying him/her to pursue doctoral studies.

Core Courses

The mandatory core courses throughout the program include: Discourse Analysis, Stylistics, Semiotics, Theory of Literary Punning, Arabic Poetics, Narrative Theory, Hermeneutics, Research Methodology, Literary Research Methodology, Reading Techniques, Critical Essay, Issues of the Arabic Novel, Introduction to Philosophy of Criticism, Classical Critical Discourse, Contemporary Critical Discourse, Arabic Cultural Criticism, Reading Card, Applied Research Methodology, Philosophy of Aesthetics, in addition to foreign language modules and transversal modules (Artificial Intelligence, Professional Ethics).

Advanced Topics

In the final years (3rd and 4th semesters), students delve into advanced topics including: Arabic Cultural Criticism and its reflections on the field of critical sciences, Contemporary Critical Discourse and analysis of modern critical texts, Issues of the Arabic Novel and narrative experimentation, Arabic Poetics and poetic discourse analysis, Narrative Theory and novelistic narrative techniques, Hermeneutics and applied semiotics, Applied Research Methodology and thesis drafting, Comparative Literature (Greek, Latin, English, Russian, American), Philosophy of Aesthetics and artificial intelligence in literary services, culminating in a graduation thesis on a specialized critical topic.

Admissions Information

The program is open to holders of a Licence (Bachelor's) degree in the Arabic Language and Literature domain, particularly critical specializations such as Criticism and Methodologies or Criticism and Critical Studies, or their equivalents. Admission follows the standard national graduate enrollment procedures (harmonization), subject to the pedagogical and scientific conditions set by legislative texts. Students follow a four-semester system and may bridge to other doctoral specializations according to the acquired cognitive competency.
