Browse Programs Admission InformationThe Language Didactics program aims to provide students with a high-level scientific education across diverse fields of knowledge, bridging the gap between theory and practice. This knowledge stems from various disciplines related to the field of language teaching, beginning with a detailed study and critique of modern learning theories, assessing their validity in language acquisition.
Furthermore, the program investigates the methodologies of teaching specific modules and the appropriate pedagogical approaches for their mastery. This includes Arabic rhetoric and text didactics in relation to the four language skills (speaking, writing, reading comprehension, and listening comprehension), and how to employ these in teaching and text analysis.
In addition, the program focuses on text linguistics (text grammar), viewing the text as an integrated unit governed by a specific system that regulates its components and highlights the structural relationships within it. Regarding language planning and policy, the program aims to identify the nature and proficiency levels of the target learners, the types of education implemented in the country, and the nature of the languages taught and their selection criteria."
The Master's degree in Language Didactics covers the following core areas:
1. Text Didactics: This module examines everything related to the text, starting with its definition and structure, and how it is taught, while highlighting its objectives and thematic approaches.
2. General Didactics and Learning Theories: This modulet addresses the concept of didactics, including its topics, goals, and fields. It explores the distinction between General Didactics and Language Didactics, as well as the concepts of Learning versus Acquisition. Furthermore, it covers the stages of language acquisition in children and the most prominent learning theories.
3. Didactics of Rhetoric: The program focuses on the didactics of Arabic Rhetoric and its teaching methodologies within the Algerian school system, specifying its educational objectives and specialized evaluation methods.
The Master’s program provides students with the opportunity to engage in specialized and advanced studies within the field of Language Didactics. Given that, the primary application of Applied Linguistics is education (specifically Arabic language teaching), this project aims to empower students with a profound knowledge base regarding issues in language didactics, particularly in the Arabic language.
This is achieved by addressing and evaluating key teaching methods and curricula, exploring contemporary educational theories in the field, and proposing pedagogical mechanisms based
· Required Qualification: Bachelor’s degree (Licence) in Arabic Language (Specialization: Linguistic Studies) or Modern Literature for the LMD system; and a Bachelor’s degree in Arabic Language and Literature for the Classic System (specifying the proposed percentage).
· Academic Background: Enabling students to establish a profound knowledge base in issues related to language didactics, particularly the Arabic language.
· Language Proficiency: Full mastery of Modern Standard Arabic (reading, writing, and speaking), and proficiency in a second foreign language (French or English) to facilitate access to international references and scientific communication.
· Proposed Research Project: Submission of an original and scientifically viable research project, including the problem statement, methodology, and expected objectives, in alignment with the department’s orientations.
· Curriculum Vitae (CV): A detailed document highlighting the academic path, research experience, publications (if any), and relevant cultural activities.
· Academic Documents: Official transcripts for the Bachelor's years and certified copies of the graduation certificate.
· Motivation Letter (Personal Statement): Outlining the motives for joining the program, academic and professional goals, research interests, and how the program will contribute to achieving them.
