About Us

As part of Ordinance 69-106 of 26/12/1969 establishing Technology Institutes and in application of Decree 70-109 of 20/07/1970, the "Institute of Technology for Planning and Statistics" (ITPS) was created in 1970 in Algiers and placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Finance and Planning. The institute's mission was to train senior applied executives to meet the needs defined by the national development plan in the fields of planning techniques and statistics, as well as to provide training and professional development for active employees in this sector.

In 1972, pursuant to Decree 72-133 of 07/06/1972, the institute was renamed the "Institute of Planning Techniques and Applied Economics" (ITPEA).

In 1983, in accordance with Decree 83-692 of 26/11/1983, ITPEA was transformed into the "National Institute of Planning and Statistics" (INPS) and placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Planning and Regional Development. INPS was assigned the following missions:

  • Training senior technicians, state engineers, and magisters.
  • Providing retraining, specialization, and professional development for senior technicians, engineers, and holders of equivalent diplomas or titles in the fields of planning, statistics, and quantitative techniques applied to economics.
  • Conducting research related to planning, statistics, and quantitative techniques applied to economics and ensuring its dissemination in accordance with the regulations, procedures, and methods in force.

The supervision of INPS was transferred to the Ministry of Higher Education by Decree 87-271 of 15/12/1987.

Since 2008, INPS has become a non-university school, under Executive Decree 08-222 of 14/07/2008, and was renamed the "National Higher School of Statistics and Applied Economics" (ENSSEA).

Starting from the 2011–2012 academic year, the school began admitting new students from preparatory schools in Management and Economics. Admission to the school is based on a written entrance exam, allowing successful candidates to pursue a three-year program (six semesters). The curriculum includes a one-year common core (two semesters) followed by two years (four semesters) of specialization.

In 2014, under Executive Decree 13-370 of 09/11/2013, ENSSEA was relocated from the city of Algiers to its new headquarters in the city of Kolea, in the Wilaya of Tipaza.

From the 2015–2016 academic year onwards, new baccalaureate holders were directly assigned to the school after their orientation. However, the school continues to admit new students through the entrance exam for preparatory schools in Management and Economics.

Key Requirements

Access to higher education and training at ENSSEA is open according to the conditions set for each training cycle offered:

First Cycle:

The school annually admits new baccalaureate holders who are directed towards Preparatory Classes, based on the orientation criteria established by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, namely:

a- The preferences expressed by the new baccalaureate holders;

b- The results obtained in the baccalaureate exam;

c- The capacity of higher schools to accommodate students.

Second Cycle:

The school admits new students from all Preparatory Schools in Economic, Commercial, and Management Sciences after a national entrance examination to higher schools, organized at the end of the first cycle. This exam is open to students who have been declared successful at the end of their second preparatory year.

Admitted students can pursue a three-year program, which includes:

  • One year of common core education (two semesters).
  • Two years of specialization (four semesters).
  • The final semester is entirely dedicated to an internship and the preparation of the graduation thesis, which is publicly defended before a jury.

Student Life

Student life at ENSSEA is dynamic and enriching, offering a balance between academic excellence and extracurricular activities. The school provides students with a stimulating learning environment, modern facilities, and access to a wide range of academic resources.

Beyond academics, students can engage in various cultural, scientific, and sports activities through different student clubs and associations. These clubs organize events, conferences, and competitions that promote teamwork, leadership, and innovation. The school also encourages participation in national and international competitions, enhancing students' professional and networking opportunities.

ENSSEA fosters a collaborative atmosphere where students exchange knowledge and experiences, preparing them for future careers in statistics, economics, and related fields. The campus life is vibrant, ensuring that students not only excel academically but also develop essential soft skills for their professional journey.
