Program Overview

The Master's program in General Linguistics is divided into four semesters; the first two semesters constitute the actual content of the Master's (01), while the other two are dedicated to Master's (02). The program is rich in academic content. In Master's (01), the student studies issues of first-generation linguistics: general linguistics, and second-generation linguistics: applied linguistics and discourse analysis. The general linguistics is taught through the following modules: linguistic issues, phonology, normative phonology, historical linguistics, and syntax. The applied linguistics is taught through the following modules: language planning, psycholinguistics, terminology, discourse analysis (1) and (2), pedagogical linguistics, sociolinguistics, and educational communication. In Master's (02), the student studies several modules: pragmatics, stylistics, applied linguistics, sociolinguistics, semiology, school legislation, communication skills, translation of methods and texts, professional ethics, and research methodology. The research path culminates in the completion of a Master's thesis.

Core Courses

The basic modules in the Master's program are modules that form the necessary cognitive structure, distributed chronologically: First semester: Linguistic issues, phonology, language planning, and psycholinguistics. Second semester: Historical linguistics, pedagogical linguistics, normative phonology, and sociolinguistics. Third semester: Pragmatics, stylistics, sociolinguistics, and applied linguistics.


Advanced Topics

The remaining modules are distributed between the systematic learning units, the exploratory learning units, and the horizontal learning units. These modules are distributed across three semesters, while the fourth semester is dedicated to completing the master's thesis and conferences. In the first semester, the student studies the following modules (systematic learning units): Research Methodology, Discourse Analysis (01) and Syntax (01), Terminology, Principles and Methods of Translation (exploratory learning units), and Foreign Language (horizontal learning units). In the second semester, the student studies the following modules (systematic learning units): Research Methodology (Techniques), Discourse Analysis (02) and Syntax (02), Educational Communication, Translation of Methods and Texts (exploratory learning units), Computer Science (horizontal learning units). In the third semester, the student studies the following modules (systematic learning units): Research Methodology (Editing), Semiology, Communication Skills, School Legislation, Translation of Methods and Texts (exploratory learning units), and Professional Ethics (horizontal learning units).
