Program Overview

The General History specialization is an in-depth university academic track within the field of historical studies and falls under the humanities. It focuses on introducing students to the various historical periods, covering the Ancient, Medieval, Modern, and Contemporary eras, starting from the second year of the Bachelor’s degree (Licence).

Its main objectives are to:

  • Develop students’ modes of thinking across different historical periods in a manner consistent with their abilities, cognitive levels, and available resources.
  • Train students to collect information from diverse sources, which requires familiarity with research methods and tools used in libraries and information centers, as well as knowledge of the types of information sources needed by researchers and how to use them.
  • Enable students to acquire scientific skills that allow them to carry out their professional, academic, and research-related tasks effectively.
  • Provide students with an integrated body of knowledge in historical sciences and enhance their capacities for critical thinking and systematic scholarly work.
  • Prepare Bachelor’s degree holders in History to pursue a Master’s degree in the following specializations:
  • History and Civilization of Ancient Maghreb
  • History of the Western Islamic World in the Medieval Period
  • History of Resistance and the Algerian National Movement
  • Contemporary History of the Arab World
