Program Overview

The Master's program in Modern and Contemporary Arabic Literature aims to provide students with a high-level academic education in the various genres of modern Arabic literature (poetry, novels, theater), with a particular focus on Maghreb literature as a distinctive creative space. The program is based on modern methodological approaches that combine critical analysis of texts and extrapolation of their intellectual, aesthetic, and rhetorical dimensions, as well as issues related to identity, cultural diversity, subjectivity, and engagement. It also aims to equip students with advanced scientific research mechanisms (discourse analysis, research preparation techniques, academic editing) and to strengthen their critical skills in relation to contemporary literary texts. The program involves practical training through tutorials, specialized seminars, academic discussions, and field research, which allow students to engage in advanced research and actively participate in scientific conferences and forums.

Admissions Information

Required degree: Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Arabic literature, Algerian literature, ancient/modern Arabic literature, comparative literary studies, or any other closely related field from a recognized university.

Academic background: in-depth and systematic training in the fields of modern and contemporary Arabic literature, with critical analysis and academic research skills.

Language skills: perfect command of classical Arabic (reading, writing, conversation) and command of a second foreign language (French or English), enabling access to international references and scientific communication.

Proposed research project: presentation of an original and scientifically relevant research project, including the research question, methodology, and expected objectives, in line with the department's focus areas.

Curriculum vitae: detailed CV highlighting academic background, research experience, publications (if any), and relevant cultural activities.
