Program Overview

The Bachelor's program in Refining and Petrochemicals includes theoretical courses, tutorials, and practical work focused on hydrocarbon transformation processes. The courses cover applied thermodynamics, chemical reactor engineering, separation processes, heterogeneous catalysis, and industrial effluent treatment. The tutorials deepen knowledge in material and energy balances, chemical kinetics, and process optimization in refining. Practical work includes hydrocarbon analysis, characterization of petroleum products, distillation and conversion techniques, as well as industrial process simulation using specialized software such as Aspen Hysys.

Curriculum Highlights

Core Courses

First Year (L1): Students follow a common core in science and technology, including basic courses in mathematics, physics, general chemistry, and an introduction to process engineering.

Second Year (L2): The program focuses on specialized courses such as applied thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, organic chemistry, chemical engineering, and separation processes.

Third Year (L3): Students deepen their knowledge in refining and petrochemicals with courses on petroleum refining processes, petrochemistry, industrial catalysis, process safety, and environmental management.

Advanced Topics

Advanced topics include the modeling and simulation of refining processes using specialized software, catalyst engineering to improve the efficiency of chemical reactions, as well as the study of biofuels and alternatives to traditional hydrocarbons. The training also explores emission management and the treatment of industrial effluents, new oil and gas conversion technologies, and the application of Industry 4.0 concepts in the petrochemical sector. Through this specialization, graduates are prepared to join refineries, petrochemical industries, or companies specializing in energy and the environment.

Admissions Information

Access to higher education and training is open to holders of a baccalaureate or an equivalent internationally recognized qualification.

A new registration procedure has been implemented by the Ministry of Higher Education since the 2014/2015 academic year, whereby pre-registration, orientation, and appeals for new baccalaureate holders are conducted exclusively online.
