Program Overview

The training focuses on the scientific and sociological analysis in the field of communication in general, and media institutions in particular, as a social institution that plays a fundamental role in the process of social mobility. This is done by enabling the student to understand and perceive the internal structure of this institution and its relationship with other social institutions, and by providing the student with the necessary tools to study the problems that arise around communication as a social institution, also through: the study of issues related to communication within its social framework and linking it to the reality of daily life; the role of communication in social progress; the purposes and objectives of communication and its relationship with the public policies of the country; the relationship of communication with culture and its role in socialization; the educational objectives and the basic functions of communication; diagnosing and analyzing the characteristics of communication and media systems from educational and administrative perspectives.

This requires deepening students' knowledge in several fields: the sociology of communication, social change, the ideological and political dimensions of media and communication, communication theories, the history of media institutions.

This training aims at acquiring and deepening the competencies and knowledge related to understanding the real role of communication in society.

Its general and specific objectives go from discourse to the practices related to this scientific field, as well as analyzing its various components, functions, and points of dysfunction, and contributing to proposing appropriate solutions.

This is done through the proposed theoretical training and field training in various institutions related to mass communication means (written press, television, radio, and various administrations as media officers within them).
