Program Overview

Through this doctoral training, we aim to promote and enhance the marine and continental ecosystems, while respecting the principles of sustainable development. The doctoral student must be able to exploit and develop marine and continental resources through the development of several activities (inland fishing, aquaculture, etc...), while ensuring the protection and preservation of the environment. Through this training, the doctoral student will acquire skills for the quality control of aquatic environments (dams, sea, ponds, etc...) namely the physicochemical parameters, microbial quality as well as the estimation and exploitation of fishery resources. Doctoral training in marine and continental hydrobiology plays an essential role in advancing scientific knowledge and solving environmental challenges in Algeria. This synthesis explores the objectives of this training and their relationship to the country’s strategic priorities.

Objectives of doctoral training

  • Advancement of scientific knowledge: PhD students are encouraged to conduct original research to enrich the existing body of knowledge in the field of hydrobiology.
  • Research Skills Development: The training aims to equip PhD students with essential skills in data collection, analysis and interpretation, as well as in designing and conducting rigorous research projects.
  • Promoting interdisciplinary collaboration: PhD students work in collaboration with experts from various disciplines (ecology, biology, chemistry, environmental sciences) to address complex challenges holistically.
  • Strengthening technical expertise: Students acquire specialized skills in sampling techniques, laboratory analysis, data modeling and the use of advanced equipment.
  • Transferable skills development: In addition to technical knowledge, the training focuses on developing skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, communication and project management.
