It is often part of a multidisciplinary therapeutic strategy, combining several specialties and types of treatment. The enormous technical and technological progress achieved over the past two decades, as well as the introduction of artificial intelligence in radiation treatment planning, has propelled radiotherapy into a modern era, offering quality care with pinpoint precision and optimal tolerance.
Batna has a leading radiotherapy center combining skills and modern resources, ensuring the training of future radiotherapy physicians since 2014.
Program Structure
- Theoretical & Practical Instruction
Theoretical instruction is often scheduled for late afternoons at the department level, in addition to masterclasses organized by the Regional Educational Committee (CPRS) and the Algerian Radiotherapy Association (ASRO). This instruction includes lectures, clinical cases, bibliographic reading, workshops, etc.
Practical training takes place throughout the day, 5 days a week, and includes various tasks, including consultation, patient monitoring, dedicated CT scanning and tracing, contouring and delineation of volumes of interest, dosimetric treatment planning, and patient placement on the machine. All activities are presented each morning at 8:00 a.m. by the trainees in front of the senior staff for approval.
- Mandatory Internships (Location, Duration)
The internship takes place in the radiotherapy department for the four years of training, in addition to rotations in the center's other departments, including imaging, surgery, and medical oncology.
- Assessment Procedures
The assessment methods are:
- General behavior (attendance, respect, availability, diligence, etc.)
- Mastery of the gestures and various techniques necessary for the smooth and safe delivery of radiation treatments
- Clinical cases and medical records
- A national examination before a jury, awarded at the end of the first year with two theoretical and practical tests.
- Local tests during the intervening years
- A national examination before a jury, from the end of the studies to the end of the fourth year, to obtain the specialized medical diploma in radiotherapy
Our Radiotherapy Center is a leading center, operating since 2014, located in the city of Batna in eastern Algeria, in a strategic area halfway between the north and south, offering all the amenities of a large modern city in terms of transportation (international airport, train station, highway), services, culture, and tourism.
Our technical platform is equipped with three latest-generation accelerators and two dedicated scanners, combining all modern techniques. Our team is among the most competent, with expertise recognized by national and international authorities.
The missions carried out are divided into three areas:
- A quality care center that meets international standards and consensus
- A training center that provides training for resident physicians in the specialty of radiotherapy thanks to a team of university hospital physicians supervised by medical professors. In addition, our center also provides training for medical physicists through a Master of Medical Sciences (LMD) program in collaboration with Batna University1.
A research focus thanks to a platform and network of laboratories and university collaborators.
