Speciality description:

The objective of the professionalizing Master's Degree in "Nuclear Security" is to train the necessary personnel by providing them with the fundamental knowledge required in atomic and nuclear physics, radiation-material interactions, as well as a broad range of training concerning the technical, legal, organizational, and regulatory aspects of the nuclear security specialist role.

Upon completion of the program, the relevant personnel should be able to design, evaluate, monitor, and manage physical protection systems around facilities that generate or use ionizing radiation (in medicine, geology, industry, agriculture, research, etc.).

Furthermore, they must be able to ensure the prevention, detection, and response to malicious acts involving radioactive and nuclear materials, as well as their investigations (nuclear forensics). This training can be summarized as follows:

• Development of skills responsible for the classification, physical protection, and control of nuclear and radioactive materials.

• Scientific and technical training of response and forensic personnel in the event of an illicit act or malicious use involving nuclear and radioactive materials.

• Preparation of human and organizational resources for international cooperation and information exchange in the field of nuclear security.

• Training of trainers for personnel required to implement a national nuclear security regime.
