Browse Programs Admission InformationThe "Sciences de la Mer" Master is proposed as a logical continuity to the Licence (LMD) Aquaculture et pisciculture. This higher education not only complements the knowledge already acquired in Bachelor’s degree in order to achieve the necessary skills in the multidisciplinary field of Marine Sciences, but also ensures the necessary and adequate spirit of synthesis for the protection of the marine environment. It provides essential knowledge for the protection and management of natural marine ecosystems that are weakened by the impact of human activities (overfishing, industrialization of coastal zones, port development). Lessons will cover the areas of Biosurveillance of natural resources, protection of the marine environment, and fisheries management.
From a scientific point of view, the marine environment is subject to natural and/or anthropogenic inputs that disrupt its ecosystems. This generates major scientific questions concerning the modification of marine and coastal ecosystems and whose impact on biological resources as natural biodiversity is profound at local, regional and global scales. To meet this, the objective of the Master’s Degree in Marine Sciences is to train young scientists with not only a good training in marine sciences but also able to properly grasp multidisciplinary problems at the interface with biology, Marine ecology and geosciences, in a regional and international context.
Workshops, outings at the port structures, missions along the coast and at sea, on the one hand, and directed and practical work at the level of research structures, on the other hand, will be programmed and allow future Master’s students to get closer to the user sector and to orient as much as possible the themes of their research work in the direction of sustainable development by being part of the overall research strategy and development pursued by our Country.
The objective is to train senior managers who can contribute to the resolution of major multidisciplinary issues in the marine environment from local to global scale. It seems entirely justified to put science at the service of national development in the various sectors of Algeria where wealth is exploited, as a rule, in an anarchic and irresponsible manner. The theme: Sciences de la mer brings together and provides a new strategic training under the new system «Licence Master Doctorat» launched and encouraged by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
