Program Overview

The materials science program provides a multidisciplinary scientific foundation, allowing students to acquire fundamental knowledge in chemistry, physics, and mathematics before specializing in their second year. The first year focuses on essential concepts such as thermodynamics, mechanics, electromagnetism, general chemistry, the structure of matter, and mathematical methods applied to physical and chemical sciences. The program also emphasizes laboratory practical work to develop experimental and analytical skills. In the second year, students choose a specialization between chemistry and physics, enabling them to delve into areas such as organic chemistry, materials chemistry, quantum physics, optics, and solid-state physics. This program aims to prepare students for further studies in a master's program or to enter sectors such as research, industry, and innovative technologies.

Advanced Topics

The advanced topics covered in the second and third years depend on the chosen specialization. In physics, they include quantum physics, advanced electromagnetism, statistical physics, and materials physics, with applications in nanotechnology and optoelectronics. In chemistry, students deepen their knowledge in analytical chemistry, materials chemistry, advanced organic chemistry, and spectroscopy, with applications in the environment, the pharmaceutical industry, and polymer engineering. The program thus prepares students to pursue a master's degree or to enter fields such as research, industry, or teaching.

Admissions Information

Access to higher education and training is open to holders of a baccalaureate or an equivalent internationally recognized qualification.

A new registration procedure has been implemented by the Ministry of Higher Education since the 2014/2015 academic year, whereby pre-registration, orientation, and appeals for new baccalaureate holders are conducted exclusively online.

To carry out these operations, two official websites are available:
