Browse Programs Admission InformationØ The dental medicine training program in Algeria is designed to train competent dentists capable of meeting the oral health needs of the population. It is taught in medical faculties, in departments specialized in dentistry.
Ø The study of dentistry in Algeria lasts six years, culminating in the award of the degree of Doctor of Dental Medicine.
Ø The course comprises theoretical and practical teaching and is divided into three main phases:
1. Pre-clinical cycle (1st, 2nd and 3rd years) :
Objective : To acquire the scientific and theoretical foundations necessary for dental practice. This phase focuses on the fundamental sciences.
Methods : Lectures, tutorials and practical work in the Faculty's laboratories.
Internships : Observation and preliminary internships to familiarize students with the clinical environment.
2. Clinical Cycle (4th and 5th years) :
Objective : To develop practical and clinical skills while consolidating theoretical knowledge. This cycle marks the entry into clinical practice, where students begin to work directly with patients under supervision.
Methods : Theoretical teaching in the form of lectures, supervised work (TD), and above all intensive practical work (TP) in the dental clinic.
Internships : Supervised practice on real patients in dental clinics (Hospital).
3. Internship (6th year) :
Objective : To consolidate skills and prepare for professional practice. This final year of the curriculum is devoted to the internship, a period of intensive training in a clinical environment.
Content :
ü In-depth clinical internships in two departments of your choice (Example : Prosthesis and ODF, or Periodontology and Oral Pathology and Surgery).
ü Providing complex care under supervision.
ü Writing and defending a final dissertation, which must demonstrate the student's ability to analyze a subject related to dentistry.
Methods : Intensive practical training, accompanied by targeted theoretical teaching in the form of lectures to go into certain subjects in greater depth.
Ø Assessment includes written and practical examinations (on simulators or patients), and validation of the dissertation at the end of the course.
Provided in the preclinical cycle (1st, 2nd and 3rd year).
Writing of a final dissertation on a topical theme of your choice in the field of dentistry.
A very good average (generally more than 16/20) in the Baccalaureate is required to access to dental medicine studies.
This average varies from year to year depending on the availability of teaching places.
Dental studies are reserved exclusively for holders of the Baccalaureate in the "Experimental Sciences", "Mathematics", and "Mathematical Techniques" series.
