About Us

University of Abdelhamid Ibn Badis, Mostaganem (UMAB) is located in the city of Mostaganem, North-West of Algeria.

The UMAB was created in 1998 by Executive Decree No. 98-220 of July 7, 1998. Previously, higher education was established in Mostaganem in 1969, with the creation of the Institute of Agricultural Technology (ITA Mostaganem) which trained Engineers in Applied Agronomy, and the establishment in 1978 of the University Centre of Mostaganem, which opened its doors with higher education in Biology, Common Core of Medical Sciences and Chemistry. Since 1998, the University of Mostaganem has experienced a very rapid growth of its infrastructure and capabilities, staff and students. The efforts of its leaders, managers and teachers have allowed the UMAB to successfully cross a series of qualitative steps that have made Mostaganem a true academic hub radiating throughout the West region of the country and well beyond.

The University of Mostaganem bears the name of Abdelhamid Ibn Badis who is an emblematic figure of the Muslim reform movement in Algeria. He was a teacher, philosopher, Muslim visionary, journalist, and revolutionary pen and knowledge. A National Day ‘Yawm EL ILM’ where the Knowledge Day is celebrated in his honour on April 16 of each year.

The University of Abdelhamid Ibn Badis Mostaganem is currently composed of 9 faculties and one institute:

  • The Faculty of Social Sciences, which has two departments (human sciences and social sciences);
  • The Faculty of Arabic Literature and Arts with 3 departments (literary and critical studies, linguistic studies, visual arts and performing arts);
  • The Faculty of Foreign Languages ​​which has three departments (French, English, Spanish)
  • The Faculty of Economics, Business and Management Sciences, which comprises four departments (economics, business sciences, management sciences, accounting and finance);
  • The Faculty of Law and Political Science with 3 departments (public law, private law, political science);
  • The Faculty of Medicine which includes a single department (medicine);
  • The Faculty of Exact Sciences and Informatics which has 2 departments (mathematics and computer science, physics and chemistry);
  • The Faculty of Sciences of Nature and Life comprising 3 departments (agronomy, biology, fisheries);
  • The Faculty of Science and Technology, which has 4 departments (civil engineering and architecture, process engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering);
  • The institute of physical education and sports which includes 3 departments (physical education and sports, training and adapted motor activities).

Mostaganem is the 27th wilaya in the Algerian territorial administration. It is located in North-West Algeria on the Mediterranean (North Africa), 350 km west of Algiers (the capital) and 80 km east of Oran (2nd city of Algeria).


The Wilaya of Mostaganem has more than 800,000 inhabitants (2008 statistics) and is composed of 32 communes, spread over 10 Dairas (sub-prefectures). The Wilayas bordering Mostaganem: In the East the Wilaya of Chlef, in the South-East the Wilaya of Relizane, in the West the Wilaya of Oran, in the South-West the Wilaya of Mascara.

Key Requirements

Bachelor's Degree :


Registration for the bachelor's degree is done according to the following conditions:


Possession of the Baccalaureate Certificate or an Equivalent Certificate: The candidate must have obtained a baccalaureate certificate or a foreign certificate recognized as equivalent by the relevant authorities.

Availability of Educational Seats: Students are accepted based on the capacity of each university or higher education institution. If the number of candidates exceeds the available seats, candidates are ranked according to additional criteria, such as the general average of the baccalaureate.

Registration Procedures: The registration process includes online registration through a digital platform.


Master's Degree :


To apply for the master's program, the following conditions must be met:


Possession of a Bachelor's Degree (or an Equivalent Certificate): The candidate must have obtained a bachelor's degree in a major that matches or complements the desired master's specialization.

Adherence to Admission Criteria: Criteria such as the overall average grade are considered.

Availability of Educational Seats: The number of available seats for each specialization is determined based on the university's capabilities and educational resources.

Adherence to the Ranking and Evaluation System: If the number of candidates exceeds the available seats, candidates are ranked according to academic criteria such as the cumulative average in the bachelor's degree.

Registration Procedures: The process includes online registration through a dedicated digital platform, followed by awaiting the admission results. Afterward, final registration in the institution is completed.

1- Accommodation


Regularly enrolled students can benefit from University works (accommodation) for this they must make a request during their pre-registration. Accommodation requests and Attribution are managed by the Directorate of University Works of the Mostaganem Wilaya (Mostaganem).


2- Allowance


Obtaining a scholarship is subject to the following conditions: To be a bachelor and regularly enrolled in a stream or common core of higher education. It is awarded for the entire period of study from the first year of enrolment. In the event of failure (repetition of one year) this one is renewed only once. His payment is suspended in case of a second failure; it can only be restored in the event of a transition to a higher year during the course.


3 - Catering


Any student, external or resident, enjoys a meal in university restaurants by presenting only his student card or resident card. University restaurants are distributed in institutions of higher education and university residences.


4 - Transport


The student card grants access to university transportation, ensuring shuttle services between university residences and higher education institutions (round trip). 5 - Healthcare Coverage


Students benefit from healthcare services within university institutions and residences.

A medical team, composed of a general practitioner, a dental surgeon, and a nurse, is equipped with all necessary medical facilities.

This team ensures medical care for all resident students throughout the academic year.


6 - Leisure Activities


University, in collaboration with student organizations and scientific clubs, regularly organize scientific, cultural, tourism, and sports activities for the benefit of all students.


Support Structures


-Incubators: Incubators serve as hosting and support structures, ensuring the development of innovative projects and the valorization of scientific research products among students from various disciplines. Students can benefit from training programs organized and led by incubator trainers and coaches, equipping them with entrepreneurial thinking and behavior. Trainers and coaches guide project-holders students from the initial idea stage to the creation of their projects after graduation. This space enables students to gain knowledge, express themselves, and actively engage in developing their business ideas.


-Entrepreneurship Development Center (CDE): as part of the strategy to link Algerian universities with the needs of the national economy, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in collaboration with the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Start-Ups, and Micro-Enterprises, has established Entrepreneurship Development Centers (CDE) within all Algerian universities. These centers provide a dynamic space for interaction and the implementation of programs focused on business creation for students. CDEs offer comprehensive training programs covering all aspects of business management, from strategic planning and financial management to marketing and sales. These training programs are essential for equipping student entrepreneurs with the necessary skills to successfully implement their projects.


-Technology and Innovation Support Center (CATI): the CATI serves as a support structure for faculty members, researchers, and students in the field of industrial property by providing the following services: access to patent databases, assistance and advisory services in intellectual property management (patent drafting, commercialization, etc.), and support in business creation (trademark registration, designs and industrial models, etc.). The CATI was established through a partnership agreement with the Algerian National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI) under the Ministry of Industry.


-Artificial Intelligence House (MIA): the Artificial Intelligence House is a dedicated space for exploration, learning, and innovation in the field of artificial intelligence. It promotes interdisciplinarity by bringing together students, researchers, and professionals from various backgrounds. The MIA provides educational support to students and faculty members in integrating AI into their respective fields of study, thereby fostering research and development in artificial intelligence within higher education institutions.


-FabLab : FabLabs are fabrication laboratories dedicated to creation and sharing. They enable both beginners and experts to create new objects, repair or repurpose existing ones, and develop and test prototypes for project-holders students.


-University Accelerators: University accelerators encompass all programs designed to help mature innovative projects develop more rapidly by providing a range of specialized services, professional consultations, and intensive programs for a limited period—generally ranging from 3 and 6 months. These accelerators assist in drafting business plans and economic models, enabling start-ups to achieve rapid growth.

 

-Business-University Liaison Office (BLEU): Its main objective is to strengthen the university’s engagement with its socio-economic environment, particularly by promoting scientific, technical, and technological research and enhancing the relevance of its degrees as added value for the university. It serves as a driving force, advisor, and support entity for both university teams and their industrial partners.
