Curriculum Highlights

Core Courses

The course aims to provide an understanding of the main mechanisms involved in the functioning of language and literary genres (novels, poetry, drama, essays, etc.) through corpora studied in different discursive contexts. It enables students to study the main issues involved in language, writing, reading, interpretation and, more generally, ‘language’. Students will also be able to define the links that linguistic studies have with other disciplines in the humanities (history, philosophy, sociology, political science, gender studies, etc.) or with other artistic practices. Finally, they will learn about the social role of language, both in past history and in the evolution of contemporary societies, as well as the importance of linguistic and cultural transfers and translation. Finally, they will develop an understanding of the analysis of media discourse and of the relationship between language and the media, by identifying the contemporary challenges of a media language.
