This project seeks to examine the current state of the discipline of discourse linguistics and the reality of its teaching at national and Arab universities. We explore the importance of discourse linguistics and establish an educational reference for its most important scientific subjects and concepts. This is for educational purposes, in addition to the severity of the acute crisis of conceptual and terminological confusion. Given the growing demand for imported consumer goods from the Western world, whether in the form of manufactured goods labeled with foreign names or in the form of concepts laden with various connotations and backgrounds, there is an urgent need to establish an Arabic discourse linguistics capable of meeting these challenges. This aims to, among other things, carefully comprehend the contents and purposes of the concepts generated, as well as the specificities of their origin and contexts of their use. This is intended to:

 

Empower student researchers to understand scientific terminology and its applications in the fields of discourse linguistics.

 

Leveraging Western theories in the fields of linguistics and discourse analysis

 

Be able to use these theories and their associated methodological frameworks to analyze various discourses in literature, culture, journalism, religious heritage, etc.

 

Regional and national capacities that can employ university graduates:

 

- Education sector

- Tourism sector

- Culture and various activities sector

- Human development sector

- Media and press institutions of all kinds

- Scientific bodies, national and international complexes

- Opening up job opportunities in national scientific research laboratories, which can establish economic partnerships with various public and private sectors

Curriculum Highlights

Core Courses

Two academic years: the first year is a Master’s (two semesters), and the second year is a Master’s (two semesters); an average of four semesters during the Master’s degree program.

All training materials are grouped into groups based on topics. For each topic, you can choose a difficulty level (Beginner, Basic, or Intermediate). All materials in a topic of a given difficulty level are called a training module. To advance to the next level, users must complete all training modules for the previous level.


Advanced Topics

Students are required to have a basic knowledge of linguistics, its major schools, and the most important linguistic approaches and theories.

Admissions Information

(Specifying the typical bachelor's specializations that allow enrollment in the relevant master's program)

Completion of all credits in the bachelor's program

The student must not appear before the disciplinary board

The student's overall bachelor's grade point average must not be less than 10.00

The student must express a strong desire to enroll in the master's program by completing the expressed desire form
