Program Overview

The Applied Linguistics major provides students with creative ways to acquire a solid body of knowledge that qualifies them to understand the issues of language and linguistics, their theories, trends and schools, as well as their study methods and mechanisms. This will then enable them to acquire a level of skills that will enable them to grasp a wide range of linguistic knowledge and sciences. It also aims to:

* Enabling students to develop their academic abilities and linguistic skills, and preparing them to write research and graduation theses, by training them in writing and scientific research techniques.

* Enabling them to understand the frameworks and backgrounds of linguistics theories and their various branches.

* Enabling the student to grasp and track all the transformations occurring in linguistic studies.

* The ability to apply research methods and analytical mechanisms to various texts.

* The ability to distinguish between linguistic approaches and linguistic schools.

* Training teachers who possess pedagogical linguistic knowledge and the competencies that qualify them to teach Arabic language and literature in secondary schools according to modern standards and curricula.

* Training trainers with scientific knowledge to prepare teachers who possess a new vision for teaching and learning and appreciate reality with all its social and cultural realities and specificities.

* Preparing experts in evaluating textbooks, teaching practices, developing school curricula, and proposing solutions to educational problems.

* Responding to the economic and social sectors through the nature of the training, which places great emphasis on writing (articles, letters, reports, and correspondence) for administrations and the media.

* Preparing academic researchers with specialized expertise that enables them to conduct field research that is more closely related to practice than merely relying on theorizing, and to pursue doctoral studies in various applied linguistic specializations.
