This major aims to deepen the study of modern and contemporary Arabic literature, based on a comprehensive and in-depth perspective that covers all Arab countries, breaking with regional centrality and paying attention to the transformations in modern and contemporary Arabic literature. The field of study in this major includes the arts of poetry and prose, focusing on their study in the Levant and the Gulf. It recognizes the importance of theater and popular literature, and focuses on the Arabic novel as a dominant genre in the contemporary Arab creative scene. It also addresses the problematic issues of Arab writers who write in other languages. Through the "Arabic Literature in Other Languages" module, it addresses Arab children's literature, Arabic travel literature, diaspora literature, literary genres, intellectual trends, and cultural studies. To further the principle of openness to other disciplines, students in this major take exploratory modules that deepen their understanding and enhance their learning through modules on media and communication theories, educational psychology, professional ethics, linguistic analysis techniques, and an introduction to the humanities. Students wishing to pursue a degree in modern and contemporary Arabic literature must meet certain important requirements:
