Welcome to Oran!
The University of Oran 2 Mohamed Ben Ahmed was founded in 2014 following the split of the University of Oran, one of the oldest universities in the country founded in 1967. Located in the city of Oran, in northwestern Algeria, on the Mediterranean coast of North Africa, it stands out for its rich historical heritage, cultural diversity, and fascinating beauty.
The University of Oran 2 offers a comprehensive academic program covering three cycles: Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate, in accordance with the LMD system (Licence - Master - Doctorate). It also provides an integrated five-year Master’s program, combining theoretical and practical education. Courses are delivered in various formats, including in-person and online learning, to meet the needs of all students.
The university consists of five faculties and one institute:
- Faculty of Law and Political Science
- Faculty of Social Sciences
- Faculty of Economic, Commercial, and Management Sciences
- Faculty of Foreign Languages
- Faculty of Earth and Universe Sciences
- Institute of Maintenance and Industrial Safety
The Faculty of Law and Political Science offers specializations in public and private law, as well as international relations. The Faculty of Economics, Business, and Management Sciences covers fields such as economics, management, finance, and accounting. The Faculty of Foreign Languages includes five departments: French, English, Spanish, German, and Russian.
The Faculty of Earth and Universe Sciences provides students with in-depth knowledge in geology, geography, and territorial planning, while the Faculty of Social Sciences offers specializations in sociology, speech therapy, education sciences, philosophy, and psychology. The Institute of Maintenance and Industrial Safety provides training in electrical and mechanical engineering, as well as industrial safety.
The university's central library holds a vast collection of books, articles, and documents available in multiple languages and disciplines, both in physical and digital formats.
Cooperation and Partnerships
At the international level, the university collaborates with more than 20 universities in various countries, including European nations (Italy, Spain, France, Russia, Ukraine, Romania, and Austria), Arab and African countries (Tunisia, Libya), and others such as Turkey. The Erasmus+ program provides students with study abroad opportunities in partnership with several international universities.
At the national level, the university works with several Algerian universities and research centers, as well as more than 40 partners from the socio-economic sector. Every year, the university organizes over 50 national and 20 international scientific events.
Staff and Infrastructure
The University of Oran 2 has more than 1,000 professors and approximately 800 administrative employees. It hosts nearly 28,000 students, distributed as follows:
- 19,000 in Bachelor’s programs
- 8,000 in Master’s programs
- 500 in Doctorate programs
It also welcomes 120 international students from various African, Arab, and European countries.
Innovation and Entrepreneurship
In the field of innovation and entrepreneurship, 48 startups and 83 entrepreneurial projects have been launched, supported by 5 patents. The university is also home to 44 research laboratories and 3 specialized research units:
- Research Unit in Social and Health Sciences
- Research Unit in State and Society Studies
- Research Unit in Human Sciences, Philosophical and Social Studies
Additionally, over 120 research projects have been initiated, including the international economic project Horizon Europe, in collaboration with 26 universities worldwide. The university continues to strengthen its position in the scientific field with four internationally indexed journals, three of which are listed in ERIH Plus and one in Scopus.
Support for Startups and Students
The university offers various support structures, including:
- A business incubator
- An entrepreneurship development center
- A technology and innovation support center
- A research office for employment
- A FabLab
Additionally, it provides an intensive language learning center, offering courses in French, English, Arabic for non-native speakers, Spanish, German, Chinese, Turkish, and Korean.
